Carbon Monoxide Dangers

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colorless, odorless gas that can cause serious illness or even death, earning it the name “silent killer.” Exposure prevents the body from carrying oxygen to vital organs and can quickly lead to headache, dizziness, confusion, unconsciousness, or death.

CO can accumulate whenever fuel‑burning appliances, vehicles, or generators are used without proper ventilation, especially during winter months when heating systems are in heavy use. Installing and regularly testing carbon monoxide detectors is one of the most effective ways to protect your household.

If you experience any symptoms of carbon monoxide exposure or need the fire department to check your home for CO, please call 911 immediately!
